What Were Looking For:

2U and edX have joined together and are dedicated to building the worlds leading online learning platform. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager of two teams in the Content Management Engineering domain, a part of the Learning Platform at 2U.  This domain includes everything related to authoring content, managing content types such as videos, as well as the ingestion, conversion and export of content for the courses and other content libraries that 2U offers as part of its portfolio.

These teams are primarily responsible for the frontend Content Authoring experiences and the backend Content Management systems of 2U learning platforms.  The teams work closely with product management, product design (UX/UI), and operational support teams ensure Content Authors have a world-class experience with a world-class product.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor two teams currently totaling 11 software engineers; some full time, some contract
  • Grow agile and high performing teams, including continuous improvement for work management processes and impediment removal
  • Partner with product managers to understand customer needs; identify, define, and scope solutions to achieve outcomes. Foster strong relationships with cross-functional peers in Product Management, UX, Support, TechDev, and Data Analytics to unlock force-multiplying collaboration
  • Be a steward of quality user experiences by participating in the on-call rotation, being an active code reviewer, and advocating for healthy tech debt management
  • Proactively manage team backlogs, automated testing, security, data privacy, cost and drive other good engineering practices
  • Be a flexible, empathy-driven people manager; be a transparent, data-driven technology manager
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate the delivery of value to customers and implement solutions that span people, processes, and technology
  • Recruit and hire new team members, as needed

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 3-4+ years experience working as engineering manager, team lead or tech lead who helped engineers grow
  • 5-6+ years previous hands-on software development experience, Python/Django and React preferred
  • Engineering delivery with product results and healthy stewardship of existing software products
  • Demonstrated experience with leading team-level Agile methods and practices
  • Architecturally experienced with microservices, infrastructure resilience and DevSecOps

  • React+Redux, NPM, AWS, NewRelic, Snowflake, MongoDB, Python/Django

While this position is open to remote candidates across the U.S., we will prioritize those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Lanham, MD two days a week.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($120,000 $185,000), with potential bonus eligibility.  Salary offers are made based on the candidates qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
