Join Planet and be a part of our mission to change the way people see the world.nnPlanet is a global company with employees working remotely world wide and joining us from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, and The Netherlands.nnAbout the Role: nnThe Mechanical Engineering team at Planet is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help drive the design of key spacecraft subsystems across Planets fleet of Earth-imaging satellites! Your mission will be to champion our spacecraft design efforts, from the subsystem level, all the way up to the top-level spacecraft. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned mechanical designer who has led mechanical engineering efforts across multiple programs from conceptual design through to flight. As a member of the Mechanical Engineering team within Planets Space Systems division, you will be a key contributor and stakeholder in Planets agile aerospace approach to spacecraft design, and will work hand-in-glove with structural analysis, thermal engineering, and reliability & qualification, as well as the rest of Planets leading-edge spacecraft design and manufacturing teams. nnImpact Youll Own:nnnOwn the mechanical design and architecture on key spacecraft subsystems across Planets satellite fleetnnDrive documentation and presentation of new designs throughout design process, e.g. across design review gatesnnCollaborate with structural analysis team to drive / perform analyses on key spacecraft subsystems to meet stiffness and strength requirementsnnDrive part / assembly tolerancing using GD&T, and own release of drawing packages for part fabricationnnDrive part / assembly design and fabrication at key subsystem vendorsnnCollaborate with manufacturing team to implement key spacecraft design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) featuresnnSupport ICD development and release of key interfacesnnSupport test planning and qualification test campaignsnnSupport debugging and root-causing on-orbit anomaliesnnBe hands on with flight and test hardware. We like engineers who get their hands dirty.nnnnnWhat You Bring:nnn5+ years experience owning products from requirements, thru conceptual design, and into test and manufacturingnnExpertise in computer-aided design (CAD) software and Product Lifecycle Management software.
