This software is built to meet the needs of regular users of government services as well as Skylights partners in government.nnIn this role, youll work with leading public health experts and technologists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop automated tools that enhance public health investigations and advance health equity. Youll play a critical role in shaping and implementing user-centered software solutions that empower public health systems to efficiently manage and integrate unpredictable data volumes across diverse diseases and health threats. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a national initiative, delivering faster, more actionable insights to help decision-makers protect public health.nWhat youll donnn* Engineer a software product as part of a cross-functional team, which includes user experience researchers and designers, product managers, engineers, and other functional specialistsnn* Achieve technical excellence by advocating for and adhering to lean-agile engineering principles and practices such as API-first design, simple design, continuous integration, version control, and automated testingnn* Select and use the right tools, frameworks, languages, and technologies for the job, with a preference for open-source solutionsnn* Analyze systems to identify technical debt, instability, unreliability, and other opportunities for improvement, as well as design, document, and communicate solutionsnnnnWhat we’re looking fornMinimum qualificationsnnn* Ability to write clean, working, and reusable codenn* Can produce high-quality code by adhering to good practices such as automated testingnn* Familiar with how to build secure, compliant software and defend against common vulnerabilitiesnn* Understand the different pieces of software systems and how to fit them together, while keeping performance, reliability, and availability in mindnn* Ability to take on data engineering responsibilities as needednn* Understand the importance of always putting users at the center of your work, including thinking through the impact and implications of any code that you writenn* Ability to work successfully within a professional services environment (e.g., can communicate effectively with clients)nn* Passionate about creating better public outcomes through great government servicesnn* A mindset and work approach that aligns with our core valuesnn* Ability to travel for work from time to timennnnNice-to-have qualificationsnnn* Experience with public health data systems modernizationnn* Experience with healthcare or public health data standards (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED, HL7 including CDA, HL7 v2.5.1, FHIR)nn* Experience working with content management systemsnn* Experience working with databases and/or cloud infrastructurenn* Familiarity with CI/CD best practicesnn* Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Docker, Terraform)nn* Experience with Azurenn* Experience with multiple programming languages and/or full-stack developmentnn* Experience working on early-stage products through adoptionnn* Active federal public trust (tier 2)nn* Prior experience working with the CDCnn* Prior experience working in the civic tech spacenn* Experience working in a remote-team environmentnnnnnDont meet 100% of the criteria but think you can do the job?
