Infrastructure Engineer

Were looking for a sharp, self-motivated, problem-solving Infrastructure Engineer to join our team.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, youll work with a small team of Infrastructure Engineers to build solutions in AWS that help keep CompanyCams web and mobile applications humming. Youll get a chance to collaborate with product engineers to help deploy the next great idea and improve our existing infrastructure to make it more reliable, resilient and secure.

Infrastructure Engineers at CompanyCam not only help guide solutions and implementation strategies, they are a resource for sharing knowledge about the cloud environment.

Our Engineering team is remote-first, spanning every time zone in the United States. We welcome people from all backgrounds and really dont care whether or not you have a CS degree or even a high school diploma. All that matters is that youre not an a**hole and youre good at what you do.

Our Product and Engineering departments also do things a little differently.

We use a customized version of Basecamps Shape Up method (fused with empowered product teams a la Marty Cagans Inspired) to organize and execute our work. That means your group will work in 3 or 6-week cycles. During cycles, our Infrastructure Engineers spend most of their time implementing infrastructure features, but they also work with their team shaping (generating and vetting) features for future cycles. After each cycle, teams will stop, reset, and choose to tackle another cycle or take a 1-3 week cool-down (a period of undirected work where they pursue educational opportunities, work on pet projects, or smash some bugs that have been nagging at them). Rinse and repeat until code nirvana.

Sounds nice, right? No sprinting, no scrumming, no death by 1,000 meetings. We protect our engineers time, treat them like adults, and trust them to get their work done. Were also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused, quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF. No nights and weekends.

Our larger company culture is also refreshingly chill. We have fun, learn from each other, and dont take ourselves too seriously.

We cover the important stuff too. We pay well, offer unlimited vacation, meaningful equity, health insurance, and other benefits. This is a salaried position at CompanyCam. The starting point of our salary band for our mid-level Engineers is $130,000. The top of our salary band for Senior Engineers is $170,000.

Must-haves

• Strong knowledge of AWS, including its networking, relational database management and cloud storage services.
• Experience deploying containerized applications and working with Github Actions and Terraform.
• Capable of scripting in bash, ruby and/or python.
• Be technically savvy and hungry to learn.
• Reside permanently and currently somewhere in the U.S. Alas, were not set up to hire outside of the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

Day to day, youll spend most of your time designing, improving and deploying infrastructure services to AWS. Youll be able to have even more impact if you have expertise in one or more of the following:

• Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
• AWS Fargate, OpenSearch, SystemsManager or PostgreSQL
• Designing systems for security and high availability
• Generative AI tools for producing code or system diagrams
• Producing and presenting educational content of technical concepts
